Capsule for the Day
Everywhere was dark and quiet; and it appeared the end had dawned. Even His executioners were threatened and they wallowed in fear of the unknown. What have we done? What if this Man is who He said He is? The testimony of the Centurion "this Man is truly the Son of God" didn't help.
The questioning, the wondering, the remorse and the regret aren't foreign to us. They are often the aftermath of evil... when the deed is done, man faces himself or herself, and the truth confronts him or her. Conscience they call it. And St. Paul gives it a twist "death where is your victory..."
What the people thought was their victory was indeed their worst nightmare. They had to deal with their conscience. This, to say the least, was their own doing, since they refused to accept Christ and His forgiveness. But imagine if they had swallowed their pride and turned to Christ?
