Capsule for the Day
At the heart of Easter is Hope. It is the Hope that is built on the Father's promise... "I will be your God". In Egypt, He was their God. He passed over the Israelites and the Israelites in turn passed over from slavery to freedom. The language of passover explains the resurrection. Christ indeed passed over from the Egypt of death to the promised Land of life.
Notice, before the passover there is the darkness of uncertainty. Where is your God? If He is God let Him save you. There is the doubt of the apostle whose hope was dashed, He doesn't seem to be the Messiah. The Messiah is meant to free us not for him to be captured, scourged and crucified. There is the big stone that sealed the tomb.
The big stone at the mouth of the tomb conveys impossibility. Unfortunately, Hope cannot be confined. It breaks the walls of impossibility, rises and shines. Hope is the virtue of Easter. It is the virtue of every character in the Divine Drama. The plot is tragic, but the anti-climax is the surprise of victory. Hope rises! It passes over to the New Life.
