Capsule for the Day
Every word in the Scriptures has a deeper meaning. Thus, one can say the whole Scripture is a mystery. It speaks of things that are very near to us but at the same time very far from us. For instance, death is near to us. We all know what dying means. But when it comes to the meaning of Christ's death, we are left with more questions than answers.
The human person is also a mystery. While science and technology can explain away his or her actions and emotions, there are still many things that are beyond science. Again, we come back to the theme of mystery. Trying to demystify the mystery reduces the human person to what he or she is not. The Human Race is truly a Nation of mysteries.
Thus, in the Incarnation, Christ didn't just become man, He confirmed the mystery of man. His life, death and resurrection become the Paschal mystery. While we may have our doubts or faith in the resurrection, the joy of Easter isn't in explaining the mystery but in participating in the mystery. For in participating in the mystery, ours unfolds.
