We can easily be misled by the binaries of life: God is good. The devil is bad. God is perfect. Man is flawed. While these are true, the binaries aren't always obvious. The Will of God doesn't always appear to be good. In fact, in many cases, if not all circumstances, it does really look bad at first sight. We give it up. This can't be God's Will. It isn't good.

The Biblical Peter was caught up in this web in Matthew 16:21-23. When Jesus foretold His suffering and death, Peter saw all this as evil, which Jesus had to avoid. "He took Jesus aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, 'God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you'". For Peter, it couldn't have been God's Will. Jesus must have been out of His mind.

"But Jesus turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s". The point here is man's thinking is limited, it can't always see the big picture. But God probes the loins, He reads the heart. So, to discern His Will we have to probe every matter with Him in prayer.
