In the past months, many Catholics around the world have been confronted with the sad revelations of scandals. They are indeed sinful and crimal. No negative word is good enough to describe the reality and the harm done by the scandals. While we shout, "these shall not happen again" let's reflect on Jesus' words, "This is My Body given up for you".
The Body He gave up for us is His Body marked with so many scandals and wounds. The scandals are the corruption and abuse of power by the Scribes, the Pharisees, the Priests, the Elders and the Roman Officials. And the wounds reflect all the dysfunctionality of humanity beginning with mere envy to the very demonic reality of sexual abuse.
He not only gave up His Body for us, He also called us to be members of His Body; to feel the shame, the pain and to journey with Him through Calvary in the great project of redeeming the Body. The Body He gave up wasn't "perfect". The Father perfected the Body by raising Him up. We can't perfect the Body on our own. We need the Father's help.
