Daily Capsule - Fr. Francis Afu

We live in a world that is deeply menaced by a throw away culture. It is sadly a culture that trivialises things, forgets experiences. Nothing is permanent, as a result nothing is worth remembering, although we do remember the wrong done us and we seek revenge. But it is very much a culture that tends to forget the good; a culture that forgets God.

Sadly enough, the things we should throw away are the things we hold on to, and the things we should hold on to are the very things we forget. To ascertain how sick this culture is, we forget God's command: "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might". But we expect to have His peace.

Because we have forgotten God, we have also forgotten that it is always "Glory to God in the highest", and then "on earth peace to people..." The truth here is until God is glorified, that is the beauty of the Character of His Person is recognized, professed and lived, humanity cannot experience His peace. For peace is the fruit of remembering God.
