Capsule for the Day
We love not because we feel like it, but because we have to, we ought to love. Many a time, there are billions of things we don't like in those we love, but we love them. We don't ignore what we don't like in them, we simply look beyond what we don't like, and love them.
That is the beauty of "love". That Love knows what He doesn't like, but He is able to transcend and transform what He knows for the Good. The Good is the goal of love. St. John attempts to define Love as God and God as Love. We kind of see the reality of Love in the Incarnation.
He knew billions of things He didn't like in humanity and creation. He didn't approve of these things, but He loved humanity and creation in spite of these things. He loves to the point of dying, and by loving, He taught us how to love. Thus, we are to love not because we like, but because of Love.
