Capsule for the Day
"When he died, he died, once for all, to sin, so his life now is life with God; and in that way, you too must consider yourselves to be dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus" Romans 6:10. What does it mean to die to sin? It simply means there is no longer response to sin in one's life.
Notice: sin is used in the singular here. It is one sin, the dreadful power that gripped us and makes us to revolt against our Creator. Through baptism we no longer respond to this sin. We become alive for God; grafted to Christ and alive with the life that comes from Christ, for He is the Life.
But why must we die to sin? And of what use is dead to sin in our ordinary day to day life? The answer is simple, we were created by God and for God, in His image and likeness. To revolt against God is in a way to revolt against self. Thus, we die to sin, to end the revolt and live for God.
