Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

One of our responsibilities as human beings and Christians in particular is to be charitable; to give a helping hand to those in need. Those in need are as many as there are people on the face of the earth. There are those who are materially in need and those in need of non material stuff.

The bottom line is all of us are in one way or another poor, in need of something or someone. None of us has it all and none totally whole, nor  independent of others. We are mutually dependent on each other. Even within ourselves, the eyes need the legs to walk to its object of sight.

To be in need is not a weakness. But to deny our own poverty is a serious weakness. In Catholic Tradition, it is even a capital sin, the sin of pride. It is a sin that tells us we don't need help when in reality we do need help. Thus, pride blocks our hearts from enjoying the sincere love of others.
