Capsule for the Day
"You are the salt of the earth... the light of the world". What a declaration! Notice, Christ didn't say you are "like the...", but "the salt, the light". In using the definite article, Christ is drawing us to something profound and unchangeable about us, our very being and nature.
Fundamentally, we are the light, flowing from The Light, the Christ, in whom and from whom we have our being. If our actions or inactions, do not reflect the light, that doesn't mean that we are not the light of the world. It only reveals that we are betraying who we are.
For although our actions and inactions may reveal darkness, we are not darkness. We are the light of the world. And the more we affirm ourselves as the light of the world, the closer we get to The Light who illumines us and enables us to live as the light of world... and glorify God.
