Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

In one way or another, we all want to be wise. We love to act wisely and to be recognised as someone who is wise and full of wisdom. Even a fool believes he or she is wise and wants to be accorded the recognition of being wise. So, there is a deep-seated desire in us for wisdom.

We crave for wisdom like the deer craves for running streams. But we miss the mark when we refuse to pay the price for wisdom. Wisdom, like all virtues, has a price tag. It is not just thrust upon us, we have to earn it by constantly uniting ourselves with the source - God. Wisdom is God's gift.

Therefore, to be wise is not about wilfulness. It is about submitting ourselves to God in humility and obedience knowing we don't know unless we know Him. And we can't be wise unless we depend on Him who Knows. For wisdom is simply seeing things from God's perspective.
