Capsule for the Day
Did Christ need Simon of Cyrene's help? Definitely, He did. But let's attempt the question this way, Christ is the exegesis of the Father in the Spirit, and also of humanity in human form. In other words, Christ reveals God and humanity in one and the same "Body". He is the power of God.
He is also the wisdom of God (1Cor. 1:24). Thus, what we consider to be weakness or powerlessness is God's strength that flows from His self-giving, the kenosis... He emptied Himself, but didn't become less of Himself. For God revealed His power not in condemning, but in saving us.
And this entails taking upon Himself our own weaknesses, and our vulnerabilities, and strengthening them from within through the "Silence" that is "Audible". It is this silence that attracted Simon to stop, to discern and to accompany. But can we be Simon to the silent cries of our neighbours?
