Capsule for the Day

John 21: 1-14 is packed with rich symbols. Two stand out and speak strongly of the presence of the risen Lord. There is darkness and it is night when Peter chose to return to his old life, trying to do it on his own without the Lord. They laboured all night and caught no fish. Darkness and night!

But John contrasted the night with the light... the light comes at dawn with the sight of the Risen Lord. But they didn't recognise Him until He reminded them of how it all began... the great catch and the call... but still not all recognised Him except the One Jesus loved. What blinded their eyes?

For Peter, the guilt of his denial was still there... his desire to return to his past blinds him from encountering and meeting the Christ who is risen and present with him. But Peter gradually came to recognise the Lord when he obeyed, threw the net for a catch... it all happens when we obey.
