Capsule for the Day

Courage is a virtue that enables us to do what we can. It is also a virtue that  allows us to admit what we can't and to say "no". The later understanding of courage is often not talked about. We tend to imagine courage to be all about saying "yes" and doing what we say we will and can do.

A coward isn't just a person that runs away from what he or she can do. A coward is also one who can't accept the things he or she cannot do. Like all virtues, courage doesn't work as a stand alone virtue. Where there is true courage, there is wisdom, there is justice and other virtues.

With courage, it is easier to say "no..." to say I can't do it and feel at peace. The biggest hindrance to the exercise of the virtue of courage is fear. Fear makes us feel by saying no, we are not good enough or we will not be accepted. But many a time, "no" reveals our real worth and makes us heroes.
