Capsule for the Day
We are all endowed with different gifts and talents. While some of us are good at talking, others are good at listening. We are all gifted. But not all of us realise how gifted we are. We tend to think because we don't have the same gift our friends or relatives have, we aren't talented.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells a story of a man who was given five talents and he made five more. And another who was given one talent and decided to bury it. Perhaps, he compared his talent with that of his friends, and it was no good. But imagine if he had invested what he was given?
Our biggest temptation is to compare what we are given with what others have. Such comparison often leads to envy; and envy blinds us from seeing the worth of our own talents and gifts. We then begin to wish... if only I had what... has, I would be... But I can't have... Can I love what I have?
