Capsule for the Day

Matthew 9: 9-13 reveals the God that found us in Christ Jesus. It describes Matthew as a tax collector and a sinner. These descriptions aren't different from profiling. Matthew was profiled; he was a traitor. He was "so bad" that even beggars would have nothing to do with him. He was ugly.

In the eyes of the Pharisees, he was a plague to be avoided. They were very strict in avoiding him... for them, he wasn't part of God chosen race. His job as a publican made him unfit to be included. He was an outsider even though he was Jewish by blood. Imagine how Matthew felt about this?

But in the eyes of Jesus, Matthew was "the gift of God". Jesus loved Matthew so much that He found Matthew and asked Matthew to follow Him. Unlike the Pharisees, Jesus took the trouble to go out and find Matthew. He found us, He wants us to go out too and find all the "Matthews".
