Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr. Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

She had no great beginning. She was considered a sinner. Some called her the prostitute. Seven demons were cast out of her. She wasn't the type one would take seriously. But she turned out to be good for Christ and His mission. She stood by foot of the Cross, while some apostles ran away.

Five out of the six accounts of the resurrection mentioned her. She was the first to witness the resurrection and to announce it to the apostles. A woman, with an ugly past but with such an incredible journey, from sin to grace; Mary Magdalene, pray for us. Can you imagine! A sinner, a saint.

God's ways aren't our ways. Mystery! Oscar Wilde is right. Every saint has a past. Every sinner has a future. Mary Magdalene is a good example here. I doubt if her contemporaries had ever imagined she would be honoured after 2000 years. Again, God raises the weak to shame the strong. Grace!
