Capsule for the Day

Every investor expects return on investment. Every good parent looks forward to seeing his or her children grow to be a man, a woman who can stand on his or her own two feet. Investors, parents, and even priests expect positive fruits from their labour. It hurts when the fruits aren't good.

They feel hurt because they love. Catherine Doherty puts it this way, "where there is love there is pain". Whoever loves more hurts more. At the heart of love is the vulnerability to hurt and feel pain. The gospel reading today alludes to this reality. God, the owner of the vineyard is hurting.

Why is God hurting? Because He loves His vineyard. It pains Him to see that the one He loves doesn't appreciate His love. No wonder He asked "what could I have done to my vineyard that I haven't done?". To be personal, what could the Lord had done for you that He hasn't done?
