Capsule for the Day

Freedom is a concept that is often misunderstood. It means many things to many people. Generally, freedom is the ability to do what we want, when we want, where we want and even how we want. While this could be true of freedom, it limits our full understanding of freedom.

To fully appreciate freedom, we have to shift our thinking from doing to being. Freedom is the ability to be who God created us to be. In other words, freedom is who we are, not what we do. And since our actions flow from our being, it is only when we become who we are that we can act freely.

In Matthew 25:14-30 we find two servants who are free. Their actions bear more fruit and they become more. We also find a servant who isn't free, and he is described as wicked. When sin - unresolved bitterness reigns, we are in chains and we bear fruits of slavery like the wicked servant: fear, sloth....
