Welcome to Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Cathedral
Welcome to the Saints Mary and Joseph Cathedral Parish website. Armidale is a picturesque, provincial city on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. The Catholic Parish of around 5,500 people includes surrounding rural lands extending some 45 kms North-South and 110 kms East-West. The Cathedral spire rises above the surrounding locale and is visible from most parts of the city. Soaring heavenward it reminds us of the invitation in the Preface of the Mass to “lift up your hearts” and the response, “We lift them up to the Lord”.
A Snapshot of our parish according to the Commonwealth Census of 2011: total population 25,102; Catholic population 5,576; Catholics make up 22.2% of total population; median age of Catholics 33 yrs; total Catholic families 1,957; 532 Catholics live alone; 367 Catholics born overseas; 238 Catholics need assistance with core activities; 2,270 Catholics have changed their address since 2006.
Further information on parish social profile is available here.
Our Cathedral Parish takes its vision from the second chapter of the Acts (2:42-46):
A Catholic Community –
- faithful to the teaching of the Apostles,
- faithful to Prayer,
- faithful to the Mass,
- faithful to living Catholic community life,
- and sharing what we have with those in need.
We trust that you will find this site informative and useful.
Invoking God’s blessing upon you,
Fr Richard Gleeson
